Blood patients given transfusions grown in a lab

Transfusions using laboratory-grown blood are being tested in British patients for the first time, in a study that doctors hope could improve treatment for patients who need regular donations.

A few teaspoons of blood grown from the stem cells of donors have been transfused into volunteers in the world-first trial and researchers will investigate whether these manufactured cells last longer than those from donors.
